Match Abandoned dueto waterlogged pitch
[/vc_column_text][vc_zigzag][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]After glorious sunshine throughout the early week there was an uneasy realisation of the incumbent weather turning for the worse during the opening fixture of the season at our home aka “Fortress Roseburn”Ram won the toss and unsurprisingly DT were asked to bat on the first pitch of the season which had been well rolled by Steve Mulholland whilst proudly brandishing the sponsorship logo. There were 4 debutants for the twos in this game and DT expected to pummel our bowling into submission before the proceedings began to take shape in opposite fashion.New ball pair of Anand and Tharun started the bowling as Anand swung the ball viciously from the stadium end. The first over saw two very close appeals turned down for LBW, both were rightly called not out.Tharun bowling from the river end got the DT treatment as the ball disappeared over the boundary towards the armoury for a very “agricultural” 6. However, Tharun gained revenge in the same over getting the same batter LBW and the teams first wicket of the season.Anand at the other end continued to pester the DT batsmen who couldn’t deal with the swing. He was rewarded with 3 quick wickets, one bowled and two LBWs putting MDAFS right on top.Norm (not the ‘norm’ amongst other 21 players of Asian heritage) replaced Tharun as first change and he continued to bother the batsmen with his late outswingers. DT who had already lost their top 4 batsmen for just under 20 runs now lost two further wickets to Norm as he cleaned up his first victim who tried to play on the backfoot at Roseburn. The other perished soon after as he tried to hoick Norm only for him to top edge which Ravi gobbled up at square leg.DT who were hoping to put us on a leather hunt were soon looking up to the skies and hoping for rain to come immediately and save them from this carnage as they were 6 down for 26 as Fortress Roseburn was continuing to cast fear in the batsmen’s minds.Right on cue the rain did start however which made it very difficult for our bowlers to grip the ball. This along with the MDAFS fitness which had started to wain and a great rear guard action from DT resurrected their innings. DTs Doma played a magnificent hand as he single-handedly scored an unbeaten half century to push the score above 100 with 8 wickets down as he punished the wayward bowling under very difficult conditions. Bowlers were unable to grip the ball and the ground was pretty wet with some slipping despite having spikes on.The match was briefly halted in the interest of player and pitch safety as the rain got slightly heavier, but it wasn’t too long before the game started again with another debutant Garuda bowling his probing line and length and capturing a couple of wickets (Maggi diving in the slips, and an LBW offering no shot) before it was deemed that the game could no longer go ahead without any risk of injury. Both teams formally agreed to call off the match. What was turning out to be a very interesting opening game of the season alas had to be cut short. However, in the brief duration of the match there were glimpses of some great individual performances and the team overall. It bodes well to start a season with positives at this stage and 2s will continue to build further after their performance this weekend.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
