Junior Code of Conduct

Introduction

This document outlines the standard of behaviour that is required for all players, coaches and parents associated with SMCC. It has been created to ensure that everyone involved enjoys a safe, friendly and welcoming environment. The Code of Conduct should be adhered to by all when in training or representing SMCC.

A high standard of behaviour is required by all concerned at Murrayfield Dafs Cricket Club

All players should:

  • Be polite and respectful to coaches, parents and other players

  • Display high standards of behaviour

  • Try your hardest at all times

  • Play by the spirit, as well as the rules of the Laws of Cricket

  • Accept the decision of the umpire at all times

  • Accept defeat with dignity

  • Show good sportsmanship

  • Be on time for training and matches

  • Keep your coach informed of any injuries, allergies or medical conditions

  • Wear the appropriate kit for the session being attended

  • Not publicly criticise fellow players, coaches or helpers

  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background, age, sexuality, social/ economic status or religion.

  • Ensure visiting teams, officials and parents are made to feel welcome and thank them at the end of the game whether you have won or lost.

All managers/coaches should:

  • Abide by the Murrayfield Dafs Cricket Club Child Protection policy

  • Treat all children equally and fairly

  • Maintain a high standard of discipline at indoor nets, at the ground/ venue and while accompanying players to fixtures or competition

  • Actively encourage playing by the spirit as well as the Laws of Cricket.

  • Ensure that training sessions are enjoyable, focussed and develop skills

  • Note all accidents/ injuries on the appropriate forms

  • Apply the Code of Conduct at all times

  • Wear the appropriate kit for the session

  • Ensure the safety of all players

  • Act in a positive manner at all times

  • Never allow bullying, bad language or bad behaviour to go unchallenged

  • Not consume alcohol before or during a training session or fixture

  • Not smoke whilst working or in the presence of players

  • Refrain from public criticism of a fellow coach, official, player, helper or Murrayfield Dafs Cricket Club.

  • Accept defeat with dignity

  • Ensure visiting teams, officials and parents are made to feel welcome

All parents should:

  • Encourage participation – don’t force it.

  • Remember that children learn best by example

  • Treat all coaches, parents and players with respect

  • Respect the decisions of coaches and officials and encourage their children to do likewise

  • Be supportive of all players at Murrayfield Dafs Cricket Club

  • Remember that children are involved in cricket for their enjoyment, not their own

  • Ensure that your children understand and abide by the Code of Conduct

  • Ensure that your children attend sessions on time

  • Focus on the child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing

  • Not publicly criticise players, coaches, officials, helpers or

  • During training/ competition no communication should be made with players or coaches that would in any way affect the performance or rapport between player, coach and team
