Murrayfield DAFS Triumph at Newfield to Claim Terry Newcombe Trophy 2025
August 5th saw our Terry Newcombe Trophy final side clinched a well-deserved victory over Inch Park CC at a windy Newfield.
Batting first in a reduced 18 over a side contest, Murrayfield put up an imposing total of 136, largely built on the back of a majestic 76 (off 52 balls) from opener Lewis Mulholland. Lewis’ innings featured an array of strokes all round the ground, including a remarkable four 6s. The total was boosted by a nuggety contribution from skipper Andy Smith (16 off 17 balls) and a late blitz from Nizak Hotak (14 off 7).
In response, an inspired spell from opening bowler Matt Stevens blew the Inch Park top order away in fine style, with Matt finishing up with remarkable figures of 4-1-26-5 – including the wickets of the entire Inch Park top four.
With Inch Park reeling, the rest of the Murrayfield bowling cartel tightened the screw and – with wickets shared among the bowlers – reduced Inch Park to 77-9. As the target looked increasingly out of reach, Inch Park’s last wicket pair added some respectability to the scorecard, seeing their side to 89-9 at the close.
Ultimately however, Murrayfield were left to celebrate a magnificent 46 run victory and a return of the Terry Newcombe Trophy to their trophy cabinet after a 16 year absence. Lewis Mulholland was deservedly named Man of the Match for his decisive knock.
